Varun Dhawan won the ‘Best Actor’ award at the News 18- Showsha Reel Awards 2024 on Saturday, but that’s not all. The actor has also won hearts on the internet with his brutally honest acceptance speech at the awards ceremony.

Varun Dhawan’s acceptance speech

While everyone was left surprised when Varun Dhawan won the award for ‘Best Actor’, beating the likes of Ranbir Kapoor (Animal), Sunny Deol (Gadar 2) and Salman Khan (Tiger 3), the actor himself did not hestitate to express his disbelief on winning the award.

Varun Dhawan said, “When the nominations were announced, Bhushan ji very sweetly told me, tumhi jeet rahe ho isiliye toh aae ho (of course you are winning the award, that’s why you showed up).” The audience burst into laughter at Varun’s honesty. The hosts of the ceremony, Neha Dhupia and Aparshakti Khurana, asked him not to disclose more secrets. Varun could not believe that he won the award, based on voting as Salman Khan and Sunny Deol were nominated in the same category as well. “My vote would go to them,” he said.

Varun also opened up about the criticism that ‘Bawaal’ received. He said, “When it was released, it was met with a lot of controversy and people had a mixed response to whether it was politically correct or not correct. But as the year has ended, it was the most watched film on OTT. We won a lot of awards, various people loved the movie… obviously people have a lot of views. Since the dust has cleared, we know the movie has stood the test of time. I think that this is what a great movie is, one that stands the test of time. It has been a while since Bawaal released, so I am also surprised that I am getting this award now.”
