Vasan Bala deletes his X account after ‘Jigra’ failure, opens up on 'plagiarism' controversy

Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Jigra’ tanked at the box office and has still become a hot topic of discussion. Vasan Bala who directed the film seems to be taking it seriously. After taking responsibility for the failure of the film, the filmmaker has reportedly deactivated his X account. However, his Instagram account is still active.

In a recent interview, Bala took complete accountability for ‘Jigra’ failure and seemingly defended Alia Bhatt. “She could have been on any other film set, but Jigra, during that time. So she has to make that choice. And she has trusted me with that choice. So it is my responsibility to deliver box office because we are in the business of filmmaking also," he said. In another interview, the filmmaker had shared that he felt like he had let down Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar.

Alia’s latest release ‘Jigra’ marked the lowest opening of her career. It earned Rs 4.55 crore on its opening day and managed to get only Rs 25 crore in over a week. ‘Jigra’ made headlines not only for its underperformance but also for a plagiarism controversy. Divya Khosla, actor and wife of T-series owner Bhushan Kumar, accused Alia of manipulating box office numbers by buying tickets of her own film. She added a picture of an empty theatre to support her argument and also claimed that ‘Jigra’ has a similar plot to her film ‘Savi’.

Vasan Bala also opened up about the plagiarism allegations. He said that both the films are out in the public domain, people can watch and form their opinions. He said that everyone is entitled to free speech and has the right to say what they want.

While Alia Bhatt maintained silence, Karan Johar made subtle jibe at Divya in a cryptic post. Besides being the main lead, Alia was also the co-producer of the film along with Karan Johar.
