The 2025 Golden Globe Awards saw "Emilia Perez" and "The Brutalist" take home major accolades, with standout performances from Adrien Brody, Demi Moore, and Sebastian Stan.

Surreal narco-musical "Emilia Perez" and epic immigrant drama "The Brutalist" were the big winners at the Golden Globes on Sunday, as prizes were shared widely across an international crop of movies at the year's first major showbiz awards gala.
French director Jacques Audiard's Mexico-set "Emilia Perez" took four prizes, including best comedy or musical film, while "The Brutalist" was named best drama and also picked up best actor for Adrien Brody, who plays a Hungarian Holocaust survivor.
"Emilia Perez," about a drug lord who transitions to life as a woman, had entered the night with the most nominations at 10.
It won for best non-English language film and best original song, while Zoe Saldana took best supporting actress honors, nudging out her co-star Selena Gomez.
"You can maybe put us in jail, you can beat us up, but you never can take away our soul, our resistance, our identity," said Karla Sofia Gascon, the film's star, who is transgender.
She added: "Raise your voice... and say, 'I won. I am who I am, not who you want'."
Big wins at the Globes can help movies earn new audiences and build vital momentum toward the Oscars in early March.
Sunday also proved an important night for "The Brutalist," which shrugged off concerns over its sprawling runtime to earn best director for Brady Corbet.
"I was told that no one would come out and see it," said Corbet, of his epic about a Jewish architect who survives Nazi persecution and emigrates to the United States.
"No one was asking for a three-and-a-half hour film about a mid-century designer... but it works," he added.
In one of the night's biggest upsets, Brazil's Fernanda Torres won best actress in a drama film for "I'm Still Here," which chronicles a family ripped apart by the country's military dictatorship in the 1970s.

Brody's win was one of the night's remarkable career comebacks, more than two decades after he became the youngest ever Oscar best actor winner for "The Pianist," in which he also played a Holocaust survivor.
"There was a time not too long ago that I felt that this may be a moment never afforded to me again," he said.
"This story... is very reminiscent of my mother's, and my ancestral journey of fleeing the horrors of war and coming to this great country."
And there was another late-career triumph for Demi Moore, who won best actress in a comedy for body horror flick "The Substance," which takes a satirical and often grotesque look at the pressures placed on women by society as they age.
Accepting her prize, Moore reflected on how decades ago, she had been told by a Hollywood producer that she was "a popcorn actress."
"I bought in, and I believed that, and that corroded me over time," said the now 62-year-old "Ghost" star.
But "I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called 'The Substance,' and the universe told me that 'you're not done.'"

The always controversial Globes are in year two of a revamp, following a Los Angeles Times expose in 2021 that showed that the awards' voting body -- the Hollywood Foreign Press Association -- had no Black members.
Now under new ownership, and with the HFPA disbanded, organizers were hoping to capitalize on a ratings bump registered last January.
Comedian Nikki Glaser hosted the ceremony, kicking off the gala with an irreverent, well-received monologue.
"Welcome to the 82nd Golden Globes, Ozempic's biggest night," she quipped, referring to the weight-loss drug that has proven wildly popular in famously looks-conscious Hollywood.
Among the dramas, "Conclave," a fictionalized account of high-stakes Vatican horse-trading, depicting how the death of a pope sends the church's various factions into battle for its future, took the award for best screenplay.
In comedy, Sebastian Stan won the best actor for "A Different Man," in which he portrays a man who undergoes experimental treatment for a disfiguring facial condition, but comes to rue the consequences.
"Our ignorance and discomfort around disability and disfigurement has to end now," said Stan.
"We have to normalize it and continue to expose ourselves to it."
Kieran Culkin won best supporting actor for Jesse Eisenberg's awkward road trip comedy "A Real Pain," about mismatched American cousins retracing their European roots.
Latvian movie "Flow," a surreal dialogue-free odyssey about a group of animals forced to work together as they drift in a boat through a flooded world, won best animated film.
The show also honors the best in television, with big wins for historical epic "Shogun," showbiz comedy "Hacks" and limited series "Baby Reindeer." PVR INOX, the multiplex chain, is bringing back the iconic musical romantic thriller that originally released on January 14, 2000.
The film not only marked Hrithik's debut but also introduced Ameesha Patel to the silver screen, alongside a strong supporting cast featuring Anupam Kher, Farida Jalal, Satish Shah, and others.

Payal Kapadia's "All We Imagine As Light" on Monday failed to convert its two nominations at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards into wins as the film lost to "Emilia Perez" in the Best Non-English Motion Picture Category and to Brady Corbet of "The Brutalist" fame in the Best Director segment.
"All We Imagine As Light", about two Malayali nurses working in Mumbai and their friend, a cook, was nominated in the Best Motion Picture Non-English Language category alongside France's "Emilia Perez", &ldquo;The Girl With the Needle&rdquo; (Poland), &ldquo;I&rsquo;m Still Here&rdquo; (Brazil), &ldquo;The Seed of the Sacred Fig (Germany) and &ldquo;Vermiglio&rdquo; (Italy).
The Best Director Motion Picture category was equally competitive with nominees, including Jacques Audiard ("Emilia Perez"), Sean Baker ("Anora"), Edward Berger ("Conclave") and Coralie Fargeat ("The Substance").
Corbet's "The Brutalist" revolves around a visionary architect and his wife, who flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of the modern United States. But their lives are changed forever by a mysterious, wealthy client.
"Emilia Perez", which is also France's official entry to Oscars 2025, follows four remarkable women in Mexico, each pursuing their own happiness. Cartel leader Emilia enlists Rita, an unappreciated lawyer, to help fake her death so that she can finally live authentically as her true self.
"All We Imagine As Light" may have missed at the Golden Globes, but the film has been on a winning streak at international platforms since it scripted history by becoming the first film from India to win the Grand Prix trophy at the Cannes Film Festival last year.
An official India-French co-production, "All We Imagine..." stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam. The Malayalam-Hindi movie is produced by Petit Chaos, Chalk &amp; Cheese, and Another Birth.
The film is nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 30th annual Critics Choice Awards, to be held on January 12.
The movie was named the Best International Film by New York Film Critics Circle and won an award in the same category at the Gotham Awards recently.
It also claimed the top spot at the Sight and Sound magazine's annual list of 50 best movies of the year.
It is also expected to earn nominations at the BAFTAs where it features in the longlist.
The Golden Globe Awards, telecast in the US on Sunday night, are streaming live in India on Monday on Lionsgate Play.

Standing in an elevator, the actor recites the story of a man who killed a bug under his bed. The man is hailed as brave and powerful but soon enough, countless new bugs start spawning under his bed.
"Poor guy, he thought he killed one insect and the game is over. That's not how it works, not down here in Paatal Lok," the actor said.
Besides Ahlawat, actors Ishwak Singh and Gul Panag are also returning for the second season. They are joined by newcomers Tillotama Shome, Nagesh Kukunoor and Jahnu Barua.
"Paatal Lok" is written and created by Sudip Sharma. The second season, directed by Avinash Arun Dhaware, is a Clean Slate Filmz Production in association with Eunoia Films LLP.
The eight-episode season two of "Paatal Lok" will premiere on January 17 on Prime Video.

Andrew Garfield has firmly denied rumors suggesting that he will appear in Marvel Studios' highly anticipated Spider-Man 4. The British actor acknowledged that fans may not take his word for it, given that he had previously denied rumors about appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home&mdash;only to surprise audiences with an extended cameo alongside Tobey Maguire.
In an interview with GQ UK, Garfield, 41, explained, "I&rsquo;m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no. But I know no one&rsquo;s gonna trust anything I say from now on."
However, Garfield also left the door open to future franchise opportunities, stating that he would not completely rule out the possibility of joining a major project if it felt aligned with his personal values. He humorously added, "Maybe I&rsquo;m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I&rsquo;m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something."
Garfield first portrayed Spider-Man in the 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man and reprised the role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014. Trade expert Girish Wankhede said Salman Khan&rsquo;s &ldquo;Sikandar&rdquo; might set the tone for an eventful year, which will also see Aamir Khan&rsquo;s &ldquo;Sitaare Zameen Par&rdquo; arriving in theatres by mid-2025.

As the curtain closes on a relatively underwhelming 2024, trade experts and film exhibitors are pinning hopes on Salman Khan&rsquo;s highly anticipated film &ldquo;Sikandar,&rdquo; and a plethora of franchise offerings like &ldquo;War 2&rdquo;, &ldquo;Raid 2&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Housefull 5&rdquo;, which they believe will reignite audience interest at the box office.
The film landscape for 2025 is loaded with diverse content but expectations are high from Salman&rsquo;s &ldquo;Sikandar&rdquo;, which is set to release on the occasion of Eid in March.
Among the films heading into theatres are Kangana Ranaut's political drama &ldquo;Emergency&rdquo;, Akshay Kumar&rsquo;s war film &ldquo;Sky Force&rdquo;, Shahid Kapoor&rsquo;s action-packed thriller &ldquo;Deva&rdquo; and Vicky Kaushal-starrer historical drama &ldquo;Chhaava,&rdquo; which chronicles the life of Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
The second half of 2025 has a remarkable lineup of films like the sequel to popular titles such as &ldquo;Jolly LLB 3&rdquo;, &ldquo;Raid 2&rdquo;, &ldquo;Housefull 5&rdquo;, &ldquo;War 2&rdquo;, &ldquo;Baaghi 4&rdquo;, &ldquo;De De Pyaar De&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Son of Sardaar 2&rdquo;.
In addition to this, there are other releases such as Varun Dhawan&rsquo;s romantic-comedy movie with father David Dhawan, Shahid Kapoor&rsquo;s actioner which is helmed by Vishal Bhardwaj, a horror-thriller featuring Kajol, &ldquo;Dil Ka Darwaaza Khol Na Darling!&rdquo; starring Jaya Bachchan, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Wamiqa Gabbi and Swanand Kirkire, &ldquo;Alpha&rdquo;, Yash Raj Films' next Spy Universe movie starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, and Aamir&rsquo;s &ldquo;Sitaare Zameen Par&rdquo;.
Distributor-exhibitor Akshay Rathi, who owns theatres in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, said movies such as &ldquo;Sikandar&rdquo;, &ldquo;Sky Force&rdquo;, &ldquo;Chhaava&rdquo;, &ldquo;Raid 2&rdquo;, &ldquo;De De Pyaar De 2&rdquo;, &ldquo;Housefull 5&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Alpha&rdquo; have the potential to break box office records.
"If you compare the releases with 2024, which has been held together by two films &ndash; &lsquo;Pushpa 2&rsquo; and &lsquo;Stree 2&rsquo;, there were other movies like &lsquo;Singham Again&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3&rsquo; that did well.
"We need one blockbuster a month to sustain the exhibition infrastructure. We cannot rely on three to four blockbusters. We need that to happen with a lot more consistency. A higher number of films have the potential to become mega-blockbusters in 2025,&rdquo; Rathi told PTI.
In 2024 &ldquo;Stree 2&rdquo; was the biggest and only hit of the year earning over Rs 500 crores, besides a handful of other releases such as &ldquo;Shaitaan&rdquo;, &ldquo;Article 370&rdquo;, &ldquo;Laapataa Ladies&rdquo;, &ldquo;Munjya&rdquo;, &ldquo;Singham Again&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3&rdquo; did decent business.
According to Nitin Datar, President of the Cinema Owners and Exhibitors Association of India, and Amit Sharma, MD of Miraj Entertainment Limited, the 2025 lineup looks promising.
"It's tough to guess now which film will do well because publicity has not started. However, 2025 looks good and I&rsquo;m looking forward to the release of &lsquo;Sikandar&rsquo;, &lsquo;Housefull 5&rsquo;, &lsquo;Jolly LLB 3&rsquo;, &lsquo;Emergency&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Chhaava&rsquo;. The rest of the films will be slow starters but may pick up,&rdquo; Datar told PTI.
"In terms of box office collection 2024 was the worst year, things look brighter compared to last year as there are films like &lsquo;War 2&rsquo;, &lsquo;Jolly LLB 3&rsquo;, &lsquo;Housefull 5&rsquo;, &lsquo;Son of Sardaar 2&rsquo;, &lsquo;Raid 2&rsquo;, &lsquo;Jaat&rsquo;, &lsquo;Sky Force&rsquo;, &lsquo;Sikandar&rsquo;. Overall Hindi films in 2025 should do a 15 to 20 percent better collection than in 2024,&rdquo; Sharma told PTI.
Taran Adarsh said there's an &ldquo;overdose&rdquo; of franchise films. He acknowledged the risk of audience fatigue but is hopeful that each film will attain commercial success.
"It&rsquo;s going to be a strong 2025, there&rsquo;s a good line-up of movies. There&rsquo;s going to be an overdose of franchises and sequels. Let&rsquo;s place our bets on every film that comes in,&rdquo; Adarsh told PTI.

Adarsh underscored the importance of quality content and urged the Hindi film industry to move away from remakes of South Indian films.
"In the coming days, we will see more quality projects and that&rsquo;s because we&rsquo;ve learnt an important lesson that we need to concentrate on content, and need to stop making remakes because they are not working.
"With everything being available on digital medium, people have seen it and people are not interested in seeing the new version, we&rsquo;ve seen this in the case of &lsquo;Baby John&rsquo; or &lsquo;Sarfira&rsquo;. We need to implement the lessons learnt.&rdquo;

Its lead star and director Ranaut made headlines after she was hit in the face by a constable during a security check at the Chandigarh airport, days after she was elected to the Lok Sabha from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh on a BJP ticket. The actor was also pulled up by the party after she made disparaging remarks on the farmers agitation against the now repealed three farm laws.

The news comes after Zendaya stepped out for the 2025 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday flashing a massive diamond ring on her left-hand ring finger to the shutterbugs. Holland, however, gave the ceremony a miss.
A family source confirmed to People magazine that Holland and Zendaya, both 28, got engaged during the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
Another source told the publication that "everyone close to them knew an engagement was happening", adding Holland had been keen to propose to Zendaya "for a while".
"He's always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special," the source added.
Holland and Zendaya, however, are in no hurry to get married.
"They will just enjoy things for now and won't rush a wedding. They are both busy with work projects. Tom's always had this sweet way of letting the world know that Zendaya is his. Now, it's official &mdash; she really is."
The actors will return for the currently untitled fourth "Spider-Man" film that will start filming in summer. They met on the sets of 2017's "Spider-Man: Homecoming", which starred Holland as the titular superhero/ Peter Parker and Zendaya as his classmate and love interest, MJ.
Holland and Zendaya, both 28, reprised their characters in 2019's "Spider-Man: Far from Home" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021).
They are also set to star in Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey".
