Has the former Mumbai Police chief Param Bir Singh who is being probed by the Maharashtra government in multiple cases of extortion, left the country?

The Uddhav Thackeray government has said that the police are searching for him and a look-out notice has been issued. Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil said it would “not be a good thing if Param Bir Singh had left the country”.

Whether it is a Minister, senior official or Chief Minister, all those who work for the government have to follow certain rules and regulations. They cannot leave the country without notifying the government and must take prior permission.

While the look-out notice has been issued against Singh to appear before the Chandiwal Commission set up to probe charges against him, a war of words has ensued between the ruling parties and the Opposition BJP in Maharashtra.

After the BJP state leadership made a scathing attack on the Maharashtra government, the Congress too launched a counter attack on the BJP.

Congress leader Sachin Sawant blamed the BJP for providing a safe passage to Singh and linked the disappearance to the likes of Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya.

He reminded his twitter followers that it was the NIA that was investigating the Antilia bomb case. The NIA chargesheet clearly says that Sachin Waze was reporting to Param Bir who paid Rs 5 lakh to a cyber expert to create an alibi.

A week ago, The Hindu had reported the Maharashtra government had discussed the possibility of suspending Singh, who after being removed from the post alleged that former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh demanded ₹100 crore extortion money from hoteliers of the city.
