Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy case. The apex court has granted relief till June 1.

The AAP supremo was arrested for money laundering and had sought a release from jail to campaign for the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

The lawyers representing Kejriwal had sought bail till June 4, when the election results would be declared. But the court stuck with June 1 for the validity of the bail.

The two-judge bench has asked the Aam Aadmi Party supremo to surrender to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on June 2.

The top court has, however, also said that even if Kejriwal would not perform any official duties, adding that it could have "cascading effects" on others.

"The order is operable till June 2. There are no restrictions on what he can say or not say in his election campaigning. We will try for his release today itself," Supreme Court lawyer Shadan Farasat representing Arvind Kejriwal told ANI news agency.

A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta had reserved its verdict on Kejriwal's interim bail on May 7.
