Delhi water crisis: Atishi's hunger strike enters third day

Delhi minister Atishi continued her hunger strike for the third day amid the water crisis in the city. She alleged that Haryana is not releasing Delhi's share of water.

"Delhi does not have its own water. All the water in Delhi comes from neighbouring states. The total water in Delhi is 1005 MGD. Out of which 613 MGD (million gallons per day) comes from Haryana but in the last 3 weeks, Haryana has reduced it. They are not giving water to Delhi," said Atishi in a video.

"The Haryana government says that we do not have water but yesterday some people went to Hathni Kund Barrage and showed that there is water in the Hathni Kund Barrage but the gate from which water is released for Delhi has been closed and water is not being released from there," she added.

A day earlier, Atishi's blood sugar level dipped by 16 units while her blood pressure also fell.

The Delhi government, in a statement on Saturday, said that on the second day of her hunger strike, Atishi's blood pressure was 119/79 mmHg, blood sugar 83 mg/d, weight 65.1 kg and oxygen level 98. On Friday, her blood pressure was 132/88 mmHg, blood sugar 99 mg/dL, weight 65.8 kg and oxygen level 98, it said.
