First FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in Delhi filed against street vendor

The first FIR under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in Delhi was reportedly registered against a street vendor on Monday.

The vendor, identified as Pankaj Kumar hailing from Bihar, was booked under Section 285 of the BNS for allegedly creating obstruction under foot over bridge of New Delhi Railway Station.

According to the FIR, Kumar was selling tobacco and water on a cart near the main road which was causing hindrance to the commuters. The FIR further said that Kumar ignored officials' order to remove the cart.

The new criminal law that came into force on Monday has replaced the British-era Indian Penal Code.
