Supreme Court pulls up IMA over comments flagged by Patanjali in interview

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) found itself facing criticism from the Supreme Court during Tuesday's hearing in the case involving misleading advertisements by Yoga guru Ramdev and his associate Balkrishna, as reported by NDTV.

The bench, comprising Justice Hima Kohli and Justice A Amanullah, directed sharp questions at the IMA over an interview given by its president RV Asokan to the news agency PTI, where he commented on the ongoing case.

Expressing dissatisfaction, the Apex Court noted that the matter had been raised previously and expected a response from the IMA when the doctor's body stated it didn't wish to preempt anything. Further, the court emphasised that the IMA's reply failed to convince them, highlighting the damage caused by the interview.

The IMA had approached the top court against the yoga guru and his firm, highlighting the advertisements allegedly disparaging allopathy and doctors.

Significantly, Ramdev and Balkrishna issued prominent apologies in newspapers, complying with the court's directives following the criticism.
