    The Mumbai Traffic Police has announced a set of traffic restrictions across several routes in the suburbs and South Mumbai ahead of the first G20 meeting of the Development Working Group (DWG) in the city.

    The restrictions will begin December 12 and will remain in effect till the conclusion of the summit on December 16. Members of the Group of 20 will be visiting the city during the duration. The event is scheduled to take place in Colaba's The Taj Palace. Indian and foreign dignitaries will reside at Hotel Grand Hyatt in Kalina in the western suburbs.

    SOUTH MUMBAI:

    On Tuesday, December 13th, G20 members will visit Colaba's Taj Palace, due to which traffic congestion can be expected on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg, P. Ramchandani Marg, B.K. Boman Behram Marg, Adam Street amd Mahakavi Bhushan Marg in south Mumbai.

    Both north and south-bound traffic will be shut on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg stretch starting from the Regal junction. Adam Street between Boman Behram Road Junction and Mahakavi Bhushan Marg Junction will be closed for vehicles.

    The next route that will be closed for commuters is the stretch of Mandlik Street to Boman Behram Road. Fourth route to be shut will be from Shahid Bhagat Singh Marg to Mahakavi Bhushan Marg Junction.

    The alternative routes for these are - from Regal Circle southbound – Mahakavi Bhushan Marg – Taj Palace – Boman Behram Road – Alva Chowk – Electic House – SBS Road.

    The final closed route will be from Radio Club to Adam Street Junction – and the alternative route is Azmi Road – Bhid Bhanjan Mandir – SBS Road.

    The exception in all four routes will be for emergency vehicles.

    WESTERN SUBURBS:

    All vehicular movement, including entry and parking, from Hanuman Mandir, old CST road, Nehru Road to Vakola Pipe Line Road towards the hotel will be shut. Emergency vehicles are exempted from the restrictions, the notification read.

    Excluding emergency service vehicles, entry and parking will be shut for commuters coming from old CST road to Hotel Grand Hyatt Road towards the hotel.

    Traffic coming from Hanuman Mandir, Nehru Road will be diverted to the military junction and can proceed to Hansbugra road or Ambedkar junction.

    Any commuters arriving from old CST road will have to take a right turn from Hansbugra junction and proceed to Vakola junction towards Santacruz station, Nehru Road or Western Express Highway.

    Apart from Mumbai, G20 meetings will also take place in Bengaluru from December 13-15.

    India has assumed the G20 presidency at a time of multiple challenges, which include scarring from the COVID-19 pandemic, sharpened geopolitical tensions, rising food and energy security concerns, growing debt distress, inflationary pressures and monetary tightening, among others, it said, stressing that a key role of the G20 is to provide guidance in dealing with such challenges.

    During India's G20 presidency, it said, supporting the countries most in need and reflecting the concerns and aspirations of developing countries will be at the forefront of the G20's efforts.
