Ludhiana court blast: bomber was sacked Punjab policeman, identified via tattoo

The body recovered from the blast site at the Ludhiana district court has been identified as that of a former Punjab Police Head Constable who was sacked in 2019 after being booked in a case of alleged drug smuggling.

Multiple news reports, quoting sources, said that the body of the former policeman Gagandeep Singh was identified from a tattoo on his body and his mobile phone. His family too identified his body.

Gagandeep after his arrest in August 2019 had spent two years in jail before being bailed out in September this year. A hearing of his drug case was scheduled for Friday, which is a day before the blast in which six people were also injured.

The identification appears to bolster Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's statement that there appears to be no evidence of the involvement of Pakistani agencies or Khalistani groups in the blast.
