Woman dragged by car: Delhi LG appeals against 'opportunistic scavenging', says 'head hangs in shame'

Following the death of a woman who was allegedly dragged for many kilometres by a car, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that his "head hangs in shame".

Saxena called the incident an "inhuman crime", and said he was "shocked at the monstrous insensitivity" of the accused who were later arrested. He also issued an appeal to "not resort to opportunistic scavenging".

On 1 January 2023, the scooty of a 20-year-old woman was allegedly hit by a car in Kanjhawla-Sultanpuri. She got entangled in the wheels and was dragged for a long distance.

The Delhi Commission for Women issued a summons to Delhi Police over the incident. DCW chief Swati Maliwal tweeted, "The naked body of a girl was found in Delhi's Kanjhawala, it is being told that some boys in an inebriated state hit her scooty with a car and dragged her for several kilometres. This matter is very dangerous."
