According to FSSAI, besan can be contaminated with artificial colours and khesari dal which can lead to serious health risks. So, it is best to conduct an adulteration test before consumption. FSSAI recently shared a simple experiment on Twitter, so check it out and take notes!

Take 1 gm of besan in a test tube and add 3 ml of water to extract plant pigments from it. Now, add 2 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid (HCL) to this. Shake the contents in the tube and allow the mixture to stand for a bit. If the besan is unadulterated, there will be no change in colour. Adulterated besan, on the other hand, will change its colour to pink.
