If you are a non vegetarian but are planning to switch to vegetarian diet you must know this. Many people also skip eating non veg during the holy month of Saawan starting from the 22nd July this year.

What happens to your body when you stop eating non-veg?

When you stop eating non-vegetarian food and switch to a vegetarian diet, several changes can potentially occur in your body over the course of a month. Nonveg food, especially red meat is closely associated with chronic diseases. When you stop eating nonveg your digestion improves from eating more fiber-rich foods and whole grains. Vegetarian diets tend to be lower in saturated fats and cholesterol compared to diets high in animal products.

However, individual responses to dietary changes can vary significantly. Some people may feel immediate benefits from switching to a vegetarian diet, while others may need more time to adjust or may require more careful planning to meet their nutritional needs. Vegetarians may need to supplement vitamin B12, as it is primarily found in animal products. Vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids may also require attention, as they are less abundant in vegetarian diets. So, always consult your dietician before completely giving up non vegetarian food suddenly.

Other benefits of a vegetarian diet

Nutrient intake adjustments: You may need to pay closer attention to getting enough protein, iron, zinc, and vitamin B12 from vegetarian sources. These nutrients are typically abundant in animal products and might require careful planning to ensure you get enough from plant-based sources.

Digestive changes: Your digestion might change as you consume more fiber-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains commonly found in vegetarian diets. This can lead to improved bowel movements and possibly some initial bloating or gas as your body adjusts.

Weight control: Depending on your dietary choices within the vegetarian spectrum, your calorie intake and balance of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats) may change, potentially affecting your weight.

Energy levels: Some people report feeling lighter and having more energy after switching to a vegetarian diet, especially if they were consuming a lot of heavy, fatty meats before. However, this can vary widely among individuals.
