Langra aam (mangoes) are the most popular variety of mangoes in India. But have you ever wondered where did it get its name from? Let us, tell you.

According to veteran mango cultivator, Padma Shri Haji Kalimullah Khan, around 250- 300 years back, a lame man in Banaras ate a mango and planted the seed near his home. The mangoes of this tree were so juicy and sweet that they became famous. And as the people used to call the farmer 'langra', the mangoes also came to be known as 'Langra' aam.

Langra mango is produced in different states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujrat, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.

How to identify Langra Aam?

Langda mango is oval in shape and it's slightly pointed at the bottom. It remains green in colour even after ripening and the skin is thin.
