Summer is fading away as monsoon slowly arrives in various parts of India. While we all will get a much-needed respite from the sweltering heat, one must need to be aware of what they are eating during the rains.

Due to the increased risk of contamination and foodborne illnesses, be careful of your diet. The elevated humidity levels and moisture during this time create favourable conditions for the growth of bacteria and fungi.

7 Foods to avoid as monsoon approaches

      Green leafy vegetables

This monsoon, make sure to stay away from green leafy vegetables. Avoid foods like spinach, fenugreek, and cabbage that are more likely to harbour dirt and germs during monsoon.

These vegetables spoil quickly and there is a risk of bacteria growing in them, which may lead to stomach infection.

      Street Food

We all love our share of panipuris, however, street food is not advisable during monsoon. During the rainy season, there is more dust which may contaminate your food.

      Sea Food

Sea food like prawns and crabs should be avoided during monsoon as they may carry bacterial and viral infections, which may cause food poisoning.

      Fried and Junk food

Sitting at your home, watching the rain and munching on pakoras may seem like a good idea, but avoid it at all costs.

      Dairy products

Milk and milk products spoil quickly during monsoon. Consuming spoiled milk or milk products can cause stomach infections. Make sure to buy fresh milk and consume it within a few hours.

      Chopped fruits and vegetables

Chopped fruits and vegetables may also harbour bacteria and virus. Avoid having them and always try to have fresh food during the rainy season.
