NCP chief Sharad Pawar says Gujarat Assembly election result was on expected lines, but it doesn't reflect the mood of the nation. Addressing the NCP's state executive meeting, Pawar said, "The verdict is on expected lines as the entire power machinery was used for the benefit of one particular state and projects were shifted there."

BJP's Yogesh Patel appears on course to wrest the Anand assembly constituency from the Congress.

Patel was leading by over 40,000 votes after 22 rounds over Kanti Sodha Parmar of Congress in Anand, which gave the world the famous ‘Amul’ dairy brand.

Congress now leads on 40 of the 68 Assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh. A breakup of the overall votes now shows that the Congress has managed to capture 43.9 per cent of the vote share, as opposed to the BJP's 43 per cent.

The state president of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Gopal Italia, was losing to sitting BJP MLA Vinod Moradiya in Katargam seat in Surat, the diamond and textile hub that the party had sought to make its launch pad for entering Gujarat’s poll arena.

After 14 rounds of counting of votes, Italia was trailing Moradiya by a margin of over 45,765 votes. He had polled 43,582 votes, compared to 89,347 votes polled by the BJP candidate. Congress candidate Kalpesh Variya, with only 5,868 votes cast in his favour, was finishing a distant third.

Congress loses its stronghold of Dahod. Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Kanaiyalal Kishori wins the Assembly seat reserved for the Scheduled Tribe candidates, by defeating his nearest Congress rival Harshad Ninama.

AIMIM Gujarat president Sabir Kabliwala relegated to the third position in Muslim-dominated Jamalpur-Khadia seat. He polled 15,631 votes so far, according to the figures on the Election Commission's website
