Commonwealth Games 2022: PV Sindhu-led Indian badminton contingent leaves for Birmingham

The Indian badminton team left for Birmingham on July 25 from Hyderabad after completing a joint practice conducted by the Badminton Association of India between July 18-24.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) gave a send-off to the team and shared the images on Twitter.

Indian badminton contingent consists of 10 athletes including two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and World Championships medalists Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen.

Alongside Sindhu, Aakarshi Kashyap, Treesa Jolly, Gayatri P and Ashwini Ponappa will be in action in the women's category in Birmingham.

On the other hand, in the men's category, B Sumeeth Reddy and the previous edition's silver medalists, the men's doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will play for a podium finish alongside Srikanth and Sen.

India is the defending champion in the badminton team mixed event and would look to repeat their previous performance this year. Srikanth and Sindhu, who both won the silver in Gold Coast in 2018, would be aiming to change the colour of their medal in Birmingham.
