CWG 2022 Day 10: overnight round-up - 4 gold medals, a slip up in women's cricket, TT & Badminton results

It was a super Sunday for India at Commonwealth Games 2022 as 15 athletes ended up on the podium with 5 clinching gold medals. While boxers Nitu, Amit Phangal and Nikhat Zareen won a gold each in their respective bouts, the mixed doubles pair of Achanata Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula did that in table tennis. The big surprise came from athletics where India’s Eldhose Paul won a historic gold at the Men’s Triple Jump event on day 10 of the Birmingham Games.

CRICKET

Indian women's cricket team though had a heartbreaking end to their campaign as they went down fighting against Australia in the final. Despite being in a great position to clinch gold, Harmanpreet Kaur's girls fell short by 9 runs. Nevertheless, they won silver in the first-ever women's cricket event at the CWG.

BOXING

Boxer Sagar Ahlawat lost his Men’s Over 92kg final against England’s Delicious Orie by unanimous decision and ended up winning a silver medal.

BADMINTON

After losing his men's singles semifinal, shuttler Kidambi Srikanth edged out Singapore's Jia Heng Teh 21-15, 21-18 to win bronze.

Indian women’s team of Treesa Jolly and Pullela Gayatri Gopichand also won bronze as they beat Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chen and Gronya Somerville of Australia 21-15, 21-18.

SQUASH

Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal also ended up on the podium as they won their bronze medal match 11-8, 11-4 against the Australian duo of Donna Lobban and Cameron Pilley.
