South Africa wears 'pink jersey' during IND vs SA 1st ODI; Here's why

South Africa is all set to host India KL Rahul led Team India in a 3-match ODI series which is scheduled to take place from today at the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.

The South African side recently made the decision to wear a pink jersey in the first ODI of the series rather than their traditional green one. This modification is in keeping with the custom of Pink Day ODIs, in which the Proteas demonstrate their support for research, education, detection, and awareness raising for breast cancer.

Cricket South Africa has called on all South Africans to take an active part in this important cause by wearing pink shirts, purchasing tickets, and attending the game.

Earnings to go to initiatives related to breast cancer

Notably, the costs of the matches will be handled to support initiatives related to breast cancer. Moreover, fans are warmly encouraged to wear pink, regardless of their location during the match, as a demonstration of their solidarity with the team and their commitment to breast cancer awareness.

“We are delighted to once again raise awareness on breast cancer with cricket fans,” Cricket South Africa's CEO Pholetsi Moseki said for the upcoming special occasion.

“To help in the fight against breast cancer, awareness alone is not enough. We encourage people to be proactive and get screened. Breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer among women in South Africa, but it can affect men as well. Early detection can lead to effective treatment and a positive outcome,” he concluded.
