Shubman Gill: GT opener decimates Mumbai Indians with 3rd hundred of IPL 2023 | Qualifier 2 GT vs MI

'The Season of Shubman Gill'.

That's how Ian Bishop described the moment Shubman Gill got to his 3rd IPL ton.

The Prince, as many have started calling him, was simply unstoppable against the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2.

Such was the destruction he caused that even the commentators were running out of adjectives to describe some of the incredible shots he played on the night.

Gill finished with a breathtaking 129 off 60 deliveries, an innings that was unusual, simply because of the number of sixes he hit, 10 of them in comparison to 7 fours.

Carnage ensued in Ahmedabad when Gill started sending them over the fence with some of the most ridiculous shots you'll ever see.

A pickup, a pull, and even a forehand smash went for a six, Gill's innings was simply one for the ages.

In fact, he took a special liking to Akash Madhwal, Mumbai's hero in the Eliminator, smashing the pacer for 3 sixes in a single over.

Mumbai were blown away, and all captain Rohit Sharma could do, was smile at the 23-year-old, for it was an incredible performance from his opening partner in Tests & ODIs.

It was like he was invincible, a man with the Midas touch for all he touched turned to gold. The visitors just couldn't cope with the sensational display of power-hitting & stroke-making.

His knock also made him the runaway leader in the Orange Cap race with 851 runs. There's no way anyone can catch him now this season, no way at all.

When Gill eventually fell in the 17th over, Gujarat Titans had already crossed the 190-run mark, leaving Mumbai deflated. His knock ensured the defending champions got to a mammoth, 233-run total.
