Mohammed Shami, who took 48 wickets for Gujarat Titans in the last two seasons, will be missing from action for the Shubman Gill-led side in IPL 2024.

The Gujarat Titans have quickly established themselves as a formidable force within the Indian Premier League (IPL), showcasing an impressive performance since their debut. In their first season in 2022, the Titans clinched the championship title, and the following year, they narrowly missed victory, succumbing to the Chennai Super Kings in the finals. Despite initial skepticism from cricket pundits, the team has proven its mettle under Hardik Pandya's captaincy over the past two seasons. However, the upcoming IPL 2024 season heralds significant changes for the team.

A major shift comes with the departure of Hardik Pandya, who has moved to Mumbai Indians, taking on the role of captain in place of Rohit Sharma. This transition leaves the Titans without their charismatic leader, and the responsibility of captaincy now rests with Shubman Gill. This new role presents an opportunity for Gill to demonstrate his leadership capabilities, potentially setting the stage for his consideration for future captaincy roles within the Indian national team as well, even as Pandya remains a key contender for the position post-Rohit.

Furthermore, the loss of Mohammed Shami poses a considerable challenge for the Titans. Shami's contribution of 48 wickets over the last two seasons has been pivotal to the team's success, and his absence leaves a gap in their bowling lineup that will be difficult to fill.

Strengths
Despite these setbacks, the Gujarat Titans boast a strong batting lineup, featuring Shubman Gill, Kane Williamson, David Miller, and Sai Sudharsan, alongside a capable contingent of domestic batters including Rahul Tewatia, Vijay Shankar, Shahrukh Khan, and Wriddhiman Saha. This combination ensures a robust batting core for the team.

Weaknesses
However, the team's bowling lineup faces vulnerabilities with Shami's departure and Rashid Khan's return from an extended injury break, which may impact his performance initially. Additionally, filling the void left by Hardik Pandya's all-round capabilities will be challenging. The inclusion of Azmatullah Omarzai presents a selection dilemma, as choosing between him and Spencer Johnson for the fourth overseas player slot will require strategic consideration.

Probable XI:
Shubman Gill (c)
Wriddhiman Saha (wk)
Kane Williamson
Sai Sudharsan
David Miller
Shahrukh Khan
Rahul Tewatia
Rashid Khan
Spencer Johnson
Mohit Sharma
Umesh Yadav
