IPL 2024, KKR vs RCB: Kolkata avoid a scare, Bengaluru lose a last-ball thriller by 1 run

The Kolkata Knight Riders avoided a scare on Sunday as they edged out the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by just 1 run in a last-ball thriller.

With that, KKR returned to winning ways and have now won 5 of their 7 games. On the other hand, RCB's campaign hangs by a thread as their losing streak extended to 6 games.

Faf du Plessis decision to put KKR into bat was the right call but the Knights still ended with a healthy score 222/6.

Opener Phil Salt's aggressive 48 and skipper Shreyas Iyer's composed fifty set the tone for the Knights. Interestingly, it was the 29th time that RCB conceded a total over 200, which is the most by a side in T20 cricket.

Chasing which, RCB lost Virat Kohli and Faf with just 35 runs on the board. However, a 102-run partnership off just 48 balls between Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks put their side in a winning position.

But then the visitors lost their way and threw away 4 wickets for just 18 runs to be reduced to 155/6.

Bengaluru was still in the hunt but once Dinesh Karthik got out of the last ball of the penultimate over, it seemed that the game was done.

21 runs were needed off the last over but Karn Sharma surprised Starc with 3 sixes off the first 4 balls. Suddenly RCB needed just 3 of the final 2 balls but the home side held their nerve and managed to bowl out Bengaluru for 221.

The Royal Challengers have managed to chase down a total of 200 just once in their history and have lost 17 such targets. KKR on the other hand have now won 6 of their last 7 games against RCB.
