IPL 2024: LSG rope in New Zealand pacer Matt Henry as replacement for David Willey

David Willey's decision to withdraw from IPL 2024 follows a trend among English cricketers this season, with Mark Wood, another key player for LSG in 2023, also announcing his unavailability for this edition earlier.

IPL 2024: LSG rope in New Zealand pacer Matt Henry as replacement for David Willey

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have officially added New Zealand's fast bowler, Matt Henry, to their squad. This acquisition comes as a direct replacement for England's all-rounder David Willey, who has opted out of the tournament citing personal reasons. Henry, known for his precise fast bowling, was signed at his base price of INR 1.25 crores, bolstering LSG's bowling lineup for the season.

Matt Henry brings to the table a wealth of international experience, having donned the New Zealand jersey in 25 Tests, 82 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 17 T20 Internationals. His journey in the IPL has seen him previously associated with Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings, although his appearances in the league have been limited, with only two matches played for Punjab Kings back in 2017.

David Willey's decision to withdraw from IPL 2024 follows a trend among English cricketers this season, with Mark Wood, another key player for LSG in the previous season, also announcing his unavailability for this edition earlier. Moreover, the young and talented batter, Harry Brook, who was bought by the Delhi Capitals at the IPL auction, also chose not to participate in 2024 edition due to personal reasons following the passing of his grandmother, opting to stay with his family during this time. Opener Jason Roya and pacer Gus Atkinson too withdrew from the IPL this year.

Apart from the Englishmen, even Rajasthan Royals spinner Adam Zampa decided to give IPL 2024 a miss, deciding to stay back in Australia, citing personal reasons.
