IPL 2024: Sourav Ganguly advocates patience for fully fit Rishabh Pant's selection for T20 World Cup

Delhi Capitals' director of cricket Sourav Ganguly has affirmed that Rishabh Pant is in prime physical form but suggested that additional time is needed for the southpaw to prepare for a national team comeback fully.

IPL 2024: Sourav Ganguly advocates patience for fully fit Rishabh Pant's selection for T20 World Cup

Sourav Ganguly, the esteemed former captain of India and current director of cricket for the Delhi Capitals, shared insights into Rishabh Pant's condition and potential selection for the Indian team for the forthcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA. Ganguly affirmed that Pant, who captains the Delhi Capitals, is in prime physical form. However, he suggested that additional time is needed for Pant to fully prepare for an India team comeback.

Pant has been in the limelight, demonstrating exceptional form by scoring consecutive half-centuries in the ongoing IPL season. This marks a significant comeback for the wicketkeeper-batter, following his recovery from a severe car accident in December 2022. When queried about Pant's readiness for the India squad, Ganguly, speaking after a team training session, proposed a cautious approach. "Let a few more matches go. He is doing very well. As you all must have seen, you know, (wicket) keeping, batting. He has held up well. His form has been fantastic, especially the way he has batted in the last two games. Let another week go, and I'll be able to answer that question... provided the selectors want to pick him -- that's most important. He's fit, fully fit," Ganguly elaborated.

Pant's performance in IPL 2024 has been nothing short of remarkable, with 152 runs in four matches and an impressive strike rate of nearly 160. This resurgence is a testament to his resilience and dedication to the sport.

The Delhi Capitals, under Pant's leadership, are poised to challenge the Mumbai Indians, a team that has clinched the IPL title five times, in their next match at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
