Jasprit Bumrah wanted to move to Canada, play for their national team early in his career

India's premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has a compelling story that underscores a significant turning point in his career, involving a potential move to Canada. Before Bumrah became a household name in Indian cricket, he contemplated relocating to Canada in search of better opportunities, a revelation that offers insight into his early struggles and aspirations. His journey from near-emigration to becoming a cricketing icon encapsulates the dreams and challenges faced by many young athletes in India.

In an era where Indian cricket has seen a substantial shift towards fast bowling, Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the face of this revolution. With his distinctive bowling action, Bumrah has consistently troubled international batters across all formats of the game, be it Tests, ODIs, or T20s, and his quality was visible once again when he took 5/21 against RCB in IPL 2024 on Thursday night. His ability to deliver unorthodox yet effective balls makes him a formidable opponent on the cricket field.

The turning point in Bumrah's career came when he was on the brink of giving up his cricketing dreams. Hailing from Gujarat, Bumrah was considering a move to Canada The potential for a different life in Canada was appealing as it promised new opportunities that seemed lucrative at a time when his future in Indian cricket was uncertain.

During a candid conversation revealed on Jio Cinema, Bumrah's wife, Sanjana, asked him about his earlier intentions to settle in Canada. Bumrah shared his thoughts, stating, "We have had these conversations before. Every boy wants to make it big and play cricket. Every street has 25 players who want to play for India. You have to have a backup plan. Our relative lives there. I thought I would finish my education and...my uncle lives there. First, we thought we would go as a family, then my mum did not want to go there as it's a different culture. I am very happy and very lucky that things worked out, Otherwise, I don't know I would have tried to play for the Canadian team and do something there as well. Glad it worked out here. I am playing for the Indian team and Mumbai Indians."
