Mayank Yadav Exclusive: IPL 2024's Speed King on shattering records and meeting expectations

In the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mayank Yadav has emerged as a force to be reckoned with, swiftly becoming the talk of the town for his outstanding performances with the Lucknow Super Giants. The Delhi-born pacer left audiences in awe, first by dismantling the Punjab Kings' lineup and then by outclassing renowned Australian batsmen Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green with his sheer velocity and accuracy during his face-off with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Achieving a monumental milestone, Yadav clinched the title of the fastest bowler in the IPL 2024, recording a jaw-dropping speed of 156.7 kph against RCB. This feat marked a significant highlight in the young bowler's burgeoning career.

Yadav's journey to this pinnacle of success was by no means an overnight affair. Despite being a part of the Lucknow Super Giants since 2022, he had to bide his time, spending the 2022 season on the sidelines and missing the entire 2023 season due to an injury. His persistence and resilience through these challenging times paved the way for his remarkable debut in 2024.

In a heartfelt conversation with Vikram Chandra from Editorji, Yadav shared his emotions and reflections on his exceptional performances that led him to win the 'Player of the Match' award in both of his initial IPL games, the first time in IPL a player had achieved such a feat.

"It was a surreal feeling and I did not expect to win the Player of the Match award in my first game. In the 2nd match, I thought everyone would have high expectations from me due to my performance in the first game. So I backed myself and again won the same award in the second game. So it feels good," he revealed, expressing his joy and the gratifying sense of achievement that followed.

Yadav's remarkable entry into the IPL, marked by his unparalleled speed and skill, not only establishes him as a pivotal player for the Lucknow Super Giants but also positions him as a beacon of inspiration for other young fast bowlers across the nation.
