MS Dhoni asks for 'time' from CSK management to take final call on retirement: Report

CSK were knocked out of the title race following a 27-run defeat against RCB recently. As soon as CSK lost, there were many speculations that MS Dhoni may announce his retirement but nothing of that sort happened.

MS Dhoni asks for 'time' from CSK management to take final call on retirement: Report

MS Dhoni is one of the best IPL captains and players in history. After captaining Chennai Super Kings for 16 years, MS Dhoni won 5 IPL trophies before passing on the leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

After the CSK won their fifth IPL title, he had surgery to fix a knee issue that had been restricting his movements the previous year.

Reportedly, Dhoni played through continuous leg pain during IPL 2024, leading to him frequently batting in the lower order despite his high strike rate of over 200 runs.

As per a Times of India report, a source has disclosed that Dhoni has not informed anything in regards to his retirement plans to the CSK management. The source also disclosed that Dhoni informed the management that he would take the final call about his IPL future in the next couple of months.

The report indicates that Dhoni might also delay his decision depending on BCCI's position on the impact sub rule. The regulation will enable Dhoni to act as an additional batsman in the final two overs, during which he will not have to cover much ground on the field.

Other outside influences may affect Dhoni's choice. An upcoming mega auction for the next IPL season will require teams to retain a specific number of players, forcing CSK to make difficult decisions.
