Hockey India general secretary Bholanath Singh questions Janneke Schopman's resignation timing: report

As the Hockey India saga unravels further, a new question has been put forth by general secretary Bholanath Singh concerning Janneke Schopman's resignation.

Last week, Indian women's hockey coach Schopman quit citing workplace difficulties.

Now, in an Indian Express interview Singh has questioned Schopman's timing of accusations and consequent resignation.

'The women’s team coach, too, said some things before resigning. Wasn’t she respected here for four years? If she felt like that, she could have said it anytime during these four years. But when India didn’t qualify for the Olympics, all these things came up.'

He even wondered if the administration should have removed Schopman from her post after the Asian Games bronze consolation.

'I had clearly told everyone that if she stays, India can never qualify for the Olympics. And I wasn’t saying this. Our selectors, too, were of this opinion.,' Singh remarked.
