Another Black life does not matter, 7 police officers suspended

“I placed a phone call for my brother to get help. Not for my brother to get lynched."

A grieving brother speaks out after Daniel Prude died of asphyxiation because of a hood placed over his head for two minutes by police officers who were supposed to help the mentally distressed man.

Videos of the incident show Daniel Prude, a black man, running naked on the streets as light snow falls. Prude is then asked to get on the ground and put his hand behind his back, he complies and the police officers put a white hood on him.

Prude demands the hood be removed but is pinned down with one officer holding his head against the pavement and another putting his knee on Prude's back. Prude spits, grunts but the officers only get concerned when they notice water coming out of his mouth.

Prude died a week later, medics concluded that Prude's death was a homicide caused by 'complications pf asphyxia'.

This incident happened in March but Prude's death received no public attention until Wednesday when the family held a news conference and released police body camera video.

7 police officers have been suspended after community advocates demanded charges be filed against several Rochester police officers for killing of a man who was suffering from a mental health problem and was of no threat.
