    The world's worst fear is confirmed. The UN has confirmed the report that Antarctica logged temperatures up to 18.3 degrees Celsius in February 2020. This is the a new maximum temperature record for the region. The grim milestone was breached on February 6.

    With this, Antarctica has now become one of the fastest-warming regions in the world -- registering a rise of almost three degrees Celsius in the last 50 years, the United Nations World Meteorological Organization has confirmed.

    The earlier record temperature for the Antarctic continent, according to the WMO, was 17.5 degrees Celsius recorded on March 24, 2015.
