Bengal lifts lockdown on Sept 12 after NEET students request

The West Bengal government has decided to cancel the state-wide lockdown imposed on September 12 after several students appearing for NEET exam expressed their difficulty in travelling to their exam centres.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted that the state govt earlier decided to have a lockdown on September 11 and September 12 but after requests from students, the government has decided to lift the lockdown.

NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is scheduled to be conducted across the country on Sunday, September 13. 15.67 lakh candidates have applied for the NEET 2020 examination from all over the country.

Meanwhile, BJP president J P Nadda has hit out at Mamata Banerjee on her govt's appeasement politics over dates of the lockdown.

Nadda said, on August 5, when the foundation stone of Ram Temple was laid, Mamata imposed a lockdown in the state, but on July 31, the day of Bakri Eid, the lockdown was lifted. Nadda said, this vote bank and appeasement politics by Didi creates an anti-Hindu mindset in the state.
