Bharat Bandh by farmers all day but 'chakka jam' from 11am-3pm

The Bharat bandh or the nationwide strike called by the farmers against the farm laws will begin Tuesday morning and continue till late evening but the "chakka jam" will be between 11am and 3pm, according to the Bharatiya Kisan Union. The farmers who said they don't wish to trouble the common man.

"We don’t want to cause problems for a common man. Therefore, we will begin at 11am, so that they could leave for office on time. Work hours in offices will end by 3pm," BKU’s Rakesh Tikait was quoted by news agency ANI.

During the strike, farmers are expected to block roads, hence services such as transport and banking could be affected. However, medical services like an ambulance or even weddings will go as usual.

The Centre has asked all states and Union Territories to tighten security, while asserting that peace and tranquillity must be maintained. States and UTs have been asked to take precautionary measures taken so that no untoward incident takes place anywhere in the country.

Prohibitory orders have been issued in Gurugram and more than 2,000 police personnel have been deployed in the sensitive locations of the district.
