Almost 150 million people could be pushed into extreme poverty by 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A new World Bank report states that the goal of ending world poverty by 2030 could almost be out of reach if immediate and substantial action is not taken.

For the first time in over 20 years in 2020, global extreme poverty is expected to rise. Before the pandemic, the poverty rate was predicted to drop to 7.9% in 2020.

The World Bank has pledged more than $160 billion to help countries recover from the shocks of the pandemic.
