India's Covaxin's wait for WHO approval just got longer. The World Health Organisation seems to have once again delayed its approval for the Bharat Biotech Covid shot, this time till October 5.

According to a report by the news agency ANI, the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization will be meeting on October 5 to decide on granting the Emergency Use Authorisation to Covaxin.

The WHO will determine Covaxin approval based on the assessments of the advisory group.

Meanwhile, Bharat Biotech said on Friday that it has submitted all the data to WHO for emergency use listing of Covaxin and is now awaiting feedback.

However, the company said that it did not find it “appropriate” to comment on the approval process and its timeline.

The Phase-3 clinical trials of Covaxin demonstrated an efficacy rate of 77.8 per cent. The company said that all the relevant trial data has been submitted to WHO, and all clarifications sought by the UN health agency have been responded to.
