Despite Vinesh Phogat's apology, WFI may not withdraw suspension

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat has sent an apology to the Wrestling Federation of India after she was suspended for misconduct during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Despite her apology, the national body may still not allow her to take part in the upcoming World Championship, news agency PTI reports quoting sources.

The 26-year-old who suffered a shock quarterfinal defeat was handed a suspension for not staying and training with her Indian teammates and for sporting a singlet of her personal sponsor instead of the official singlet.

Wrestlers Sonam Malik and Divya Kakran also might be barred from appearing in the World Championship trials that are set to begin from October 2nd in Norway. The WFI has accused both the wrestlers of misconduct and will decide on their participation by the next week.
