DMK govt in Tamil Nadu slashes petrol prices by Rs 3, targets Centre

The DMK government in Tamil Nadu on Friday slashed state tax on petrol by Rs three per litre to ease the burden on the citizens.

Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan announced the cut while presenting the Revised Budget for 2021-22 to the Assembly.

This measure will result in a loss of revenue of Rs.1,160 crore a year," the Finance Minister said.

The state government held the Centre responsible for increase in the cost of fuel and said the onus of providing relief to end consumers lay with the union government.

Fuel prices have been rising across the country and have breached the ₹ 100 mark in several states.

Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on local taxes. Over 50% of the retail petrol prices comprises of central and state taxes.
