Food brands including McDonald's, Unilever and Tesco in Britain are urging the government to take stricter stance against deforestation.

The companies believe the ban to procure produce from illegally deforested land should apply to all kinds of deforestation including that done on land that is legal.

The companies have authored a joint call to action.

The effect of deforestation on the climate, whether done legally or illegally is the same.

The letter written by these 21 companies could bring a breakthrough for environmental campaigners.
