Punjab: Farmers' rail roko from today against farm bills

To protest against the passage of the contentious farm bills, the farmers in Punjab are organising 3-day rail roko protests across the state from Thursday. The farmers and opposition parties are up in arms against the bills that centre claims will help farmers get better price for their produce. Another farmers’ organisation has called for a state-wide ‘bandh’ on September 25. The protesters worry that the bills will dismantle the current MSP system and leave the farmers at the mercy of big corporates. The centre has repeated assured the farmers that MSP will stay.
