Raksha Bandhan 2021: Watch how Nitish Kumar, other politicians celebrated rakhi

Raksha Bandhan, a festival to cherish the bond between brothers and sisters, is celebrated with fervour and enthusiasm across the country. As India celebrates Raksha Bandhan on Sunday, political leaders wished people on the auspicious occasion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the people. Vice president M Venkaiah Naidu greeted the nation and urged people to ensure a safe environment for the women. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla also tweeted to wish people.

To celebrate the occasion Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar tied rakhis to trees in Patna as he urged people to plant saplings and save them to conserve the environment. The NDA-led Bihar government has been observing Rakshabandhan as 'Vriksh Raksha Diwas' (Tree Protection Day) since 2012 to protect Bihar's green cover.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Sunday tied rakhis to COVID-19 frontline workers including doctors and nurses on the occasion of Rakshabandhan. Pednekar also tied rakhis to the Mumbai Police force officers and shared photos of the same on Twitter.

Meanwhile, in Bengal the ruling TMC organised a #Rakshabandhan event. Rakhis with the face of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and "Dilli Chalo" written on it were tied to the Afghan nationals and others living in Kolkata’s Dum Dum area.
