'The Family Man 2': Samantha Akkineni apologises for hurting sentiments

Actor Samantha Akkineni, who played the role of a Sri Lankan Tamil liberation fighter in 'The Family Man' season 2, has reacted to the controversy surrounding her Hindi debut show.

In an interview to Bollywood Hungama, Samantha apologised for hurting people’s sentiments, without addressing the topic directly.

She explained that her intention was not to hurt anyone and has remained silent so long because she knows when to speak up.

She added that after the release of the Amazon Prime Video show, 'a lot of the noise stopped'.

Meanwhile, in an another exclusive interview with India Today, Samantha spoke about her Best Actress win for 'The Family Man 2' at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2021 and said that 'It feels really good to get that approval and encouragement'.

The actress further added that she is taking a small break for a month.

'The Family Man 2 faced a lot of flak ahead of its release, with several political leaders raising objections to the depiction of the Tamil community . The Tamil Nadu government had also objected to the casting of Samantha Akkineni, who is a 'Tamil-speaking actress', as a terrorist. They said that the Manoj Bajpayee-starrer should be banned not just in the state, but across the country as it has hurt the sentiments of Tamil people and Tamil culture.

Ahead of its release, 'The Family Man' season 2 directors Raj and DK had released a statement, adding that they respect the sentiments of Tamil people and have come up with 'a sensitive, balanced, and riveting story'.

On the work front, Samantha recently wrapped up the shooting for the Telugu film 'Shakuntalam' and is currently shooting for the Tamil film 'Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal'.
