Tokyo Paralympics 2020: 54-member strong contingent to represent India across 9 sports

India is set to field its largest ever contingent at Tokyo Paralympics 2020 which will begin from Tuesday. A total of 54 athletes who are a part of the Indian government's Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) will represent India in 9 sports including Archery, Athletics, Weightlifting, Swimming, Badminton, Shooting, Canoeing, Table Tennis and Taekwondo.

While Bhavina Patel, ranked 8th and Sonalben Patel, ranked 19th will represent India in Table Tennis Women's Singles, they will also pair up for the Table Tennis Women's doubles. Their campaign starts on August 25th. 21-year-old Aruna Singh Tanwar is the only Indian to take part in the Para-Taekwondo event. Jai Deep and Sakina Khatun, who are India's best bet at a Paralympics medal are set to take part in Para Powerlifting.

India has won a total of 12 medals including 4 golds in all the 11 Paralympic appearances it has made so far.
