Young adults prefer marijuana high, abstain from alcohol: survey

An American survey has found that alcohol consumption is falling out of favour amongst young adults aged 18-22. Conducted twice, the survey discovered that 'teetotalism' or the practice of abstaining from alcohol rose from 20% in 2002 to 28% in 2018.

However, researchers report that cannabis use has replaced youngsters' thirst for hard drinks. More people are opting for marijuana and co-using marijuana and alcohol, the survey published in JAMA Paediatrics found. Researchers noted that despite this their findings suggest a positive trend as misuse is reported less but urged to keep a watch on co-using habits.
