In a significant development for Android users seeking access to iMessage, a new app called Beeper Mini has been launched by Palo Alto-based Beeper.

This groundbreaking app, with a monthly subscription fee of $1.99, enables users to send and receive end-to-end encrypted chats on iMessage.

      How Beeper Mini Works

The team behind Beeper Mini has reverse engineered the iMessage protocol, ensuring security and privacy for users.

To use Beeper Mini, users can download the app from the Play Store and log in using their Google account, following some permissions and setting up the subscription.

The app offers two sign-in options. The default option allows log-in without an Apple ID, which means messages are not synced across different devices.

Alternatively, users can choose to log in using their Apple ID, enabling iMessage usage across multiple devices, in addition to Beeper Mini on their Android phone.

      Supported iMessage Features

Beeper Mini, while providing a seamless iMessage experience, does not support all features.

It currently supports threads, replies, read receipts, direct messages, editing messages, and high-resolution video and images.

However, certain features such as live location sharing, message effects, and FaceTime support are not currently available.

Beeper Mini Could be Very Important

After Carl Pei’s disaster with Nothing Chats, the creation of Beeper Mini looks like an essential step in blurring the lines between iMessage and Android.

It offers a viable alternative for users who have long desired access to iMessage on their Android devices.

While the blue bubble/green bubble divide is not relevant here in India (and in most other countries), Beeper Mini could prove to be an important new launch for Android brands in the United States.
