ChatGPT introduces Memory feature to better retain information; Check details, how to use feature, & more

Memory feature in ChatGPT started rolling out in February, but in the latest update, OpenAi has made it available to a larger audience of ChatGPT Plus subscribers. With this launch, here's where you can check out the details of the feature.

ChatGPT introduces Memory feature to better retain information; Check details, how to use feature, & more

OpenAI has officially launched a Memory feature for ChatGPT, now available to all ChatGPT Plus users, except in Europe and Korea. The feature started rolling out in February, but in a recent post, OpenAI has confirmed that Memory feature is now being introduced to a wider audience of ChatGPT Plus' paid subscribers. However, Korea and Europe are yet to receive the update.

The Memory feature aims to enhance user experience by allowing the AI to remember information across sessions. In an older blog, ChatGPT has detailed how the Memory feature works. Here’s all we know.

What is the Memory Feature?

The Memory feature enables ChatGPT to retain information from interactions, eliminating the need for users to repeat themselves or their commands during conversations. This advancement aims to make ChatGPT a more effective assistant, learning from past interactions to provide more personalized responses.

ChatGPT Memory Feature: How Does It Work?

Users have the option to instruct ChatGPT to remember specific details or let the AI pick up information autonomously. The feature improves over time with use, adapting to user preferences and enhancing the quality of interactions. For example, if a user mentions they own a coffee shop, ChatGPT might later suggest promotional ideas based on this information.

ChatGPT Memory Feature: User Control and Management

Control over this feature is fully in the users' hands. They can activate or deactivate Memory at any time through the settings menu under 'Personalization' > 'Memory'. Additionally, users can manage what ChatGPT remembers by reviewing and adjusting stored memories. This can be done by clicking on 'Memory updated' and selecting 'Manage memories'.

The practicality of Memory extends to various user-specific preferences. If a user prefers meeting notes formatted with headlines, bullets, and summarized action items, ChatGPT can remember this layout for future note-taking tasks. Another instance could be remembering personal details like family members' interests, which can be used to suggest tailored activities or gifts.

ChatGPT Memory Feature: Access and Updates

To facilitate ease of access, OpenAI has made it simpler for users to review and manage memories. Anytime there's an update to the stored memories, users can easily access this information and make necessary adjustments. This ensures that all memories are up-to-date and relevant to the user's current needs.

This new feature is currently limited to ChatGPT Plus users only, and there has been no announcement regarding its expansion to free users of ChatGPT. OpenAI continues to emphasize that users maintain complete control over their data, allowing them to delete specific memories or turn off the feature entirely as needed.
