Google has announced the launch of a new category of Chromebooks called Chromebook Plus, aimed at boosting productivity for users.

These laptops, produced by leading manufacturers such as Acer, Asus, HP, and Lenovo, come with specific hardware requirements and are available at a starting price of $399.

      Superior Hardware Requirements

To ensure optimal performance when running productivity software and AI-powered features, Google has established minimum hardware specifications for the Chromebook Plus.

These specifications include a processor powered by Intel Core i3 12th Gen or higher, or AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series or higher.

In addition, the device must have a minimum of 8GB of RAM, at least 128GB of storage capacity, a webcam capable of 1080p resolution or better with Temporal Noise Reduction, and a high-quality Full HD IPS display.

These specifications are specifically designed to enhance the overall functionality and capabilities of the Chromebook Plus.

One of the notable features of the Chromebook Plus is the addition of valuable video conferencing features.

A dedicated control panel at the bottom of the system allows users to easily mute/unmute the microphone and enable/disable the camera.

Moreover, the expanded menu reveals AI-powered features, including enhanced lighting, noise cancellation, background blur, and live captions.

Furthermore, automatic file synchronisation for Google Drive is being enabled, ensuring that files can be accessed even without an internet connection.

Google Photos Updates Exclusively for Chromebook Plus

Google Photos is also receiving several updates exclusively for the Chromebook Plus.

These updates include the Magic Eraser for object removal, HDR, portrait blur, and automatic movie creation from photos and videos.

While some of these features may be compatible with other Chromebooks, Google has indicated that they will initially be exclusive to the Plus category.

      Collaborations and Subscriptions

Google has collaborated with industry-leading software providers, including Adobe and LumaTouch, to offer software like Photoshop, Adobe Express, and LumaFusion for Chromebook Plus users.

Buyers of new Chromebook Plus devices will enjoy three months of free subscriptions to Photoshop and Express.

Additionally, all new Chromebook Plus devices come with a three-month subscription to Nvidia's GeForce NOW Priority tier cloud gaming service.

Upcoming AI-Powered Features and Extended Software Support

In line with Google's AI integration strategy, Chromebook Plus users can look forward to upcoming AI-powered features such as a writing assistant that works across various websites.

Additionally, users will be able to create AI-generated wallpapers based on prompts, a feature previously announced for Android.

Furthermore, Google has extended its offer of 10 years of software updates to include older devices that meet the Chromebook Plus profile, ensuring longevity and continued support for Chromebook users.

      Availability and Pricing

The initial wave of Chromebook Plus devices, with prices starting at $399, will be launched by Acer, Asus, HP, and Lenovo.

These devices are available in both clamshell and detachable two-in-one form factors and will go on sale starting October 8.

European and Canadian customers will be able to place orders for Chromebook Plus devices the following day, expanding access to these productivity-boosting laptops to customers worldwide.
