Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 get watchOS 10.1 update; Double Tap gesture feature added

Apple has released a significant software update for its recently launched Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2.

The latest patch, watchOS 10.1, brings a host of new features designed to improve functionality and user experience.

Double Tap Gesture: Controlling the Apple Watch Without Touching the Screen

The highlight of the update is the introduction of the highly anticipated Double Tap gesture. This new feature allows users to control their Apple Watch without physically touching the display.

During the September launch event, Apple showcased this innovative feature, emphasising its role in helping users operate their smartwatch more conveniently.

With the Double Tap gesture, users can snooze alarms, answer calls, start a timer, control media playback, and more.

Customisation Options: Tailoring the Double Tap Gesture

To give users further control, the update includes customization options for the Double Tap gesture.

By navigating to Settings > Gestures > Double Tap, users can personalise their Apple Watch experience by configuring the gesture to their liking.

Additionally, Apple provides the option to disable the feature entirely from the same menu.

NameDrop Feature: Seamlessly Sharing Contact Information

The update also introduces a new feature called NameDrop, which allows users to exchange contact information seamlessly with other iPhone and Apple Watch users.

This feature will be available for Apple Watch SE 2, Watch Series 7, and newer models. NameDrop simplifies the process of sharing contacts, eliminating the need for manual input or scanning QR codes.

Bug Fixes for Enhanced User Experience

The watchOS 10.1 update addresses several bugs in the Apple Watch, aiming to enhance the overall user experience.

By resolving these issues, Apple ensures that users can enjoy a smoother and more reliable performance from their smartwatches.

iOS 17.1 Update for iPhones: Further Customisation and Bug Fixes

In addition to the watchOS update, Apple has released iOS 17.1, a major software update for iPhones.

This update brings several exciting features for iPhone 15 Pro users, including the ability to further customise the action button, personalise StandBy mode, and utilise the Personalised photo shuffle feature.

It also resolves the 80% charging limit issue, which prevents battery overcharging and extends battery life.
