Google's Circle to Search is rolling out on Pixel 8 and 8 Pro

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are now equipped with a new feature called Circle to Search, which has been added in the January Feature Drop. This innovative tool is an evolution of previous functionalities like "Now on Tap" and "What's on my screen?" found in Google Assistant. It integrates screen search capabilities in a more advanced and user-friendly manner.

Activating Circle to Search: Gesture and 3-Button Navigation

To activate Circle to Search on the Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro, users with Gesture navigation enabled can simply long-press the navigation handle. For those preferring 3-button navigation, the same functionality is accessible through the home button.

However, it's important to note that using the home button for this feature will disable the ability to launch Google Assistant using the same button. Alternative methods to access the Assistant include voice commands, the power button, or the home screen app icon.

User Experience and Interaction

Upon activation, users will notice a blue/purple shimmer at the screen's bottom, indicating the feature's activation. A search bar, complete with a voice mic and Lens icon, appears at the bottom.

Additional options are available in an overflow menu, including search history, the option to delete the last 15 minutes of activity, and a feedback button. Users can easily navigate out of Circle to Search by swiping or using the navigation handle, swiftly returning to their previous task.

How to Use Circle to Search on Pixel 8

Using Circle to Search involves selecting an area of the screen by circling, tapping, or drawing over it. This action is accompanied by haptic feedback for a more tactile experience.

A resizable box appears around the selected area, along with a panel showing search results and the option to add text queries. Google has refined the multisearch results for a more comprehensive understanding of concepts, ideas, or topics, pulling information from various web sources.

Text Selection and Screenshot Navigation

For text selection, users can highlight or cross out text. If they need to adjust the view of the screenshot, two-finger gestures allow for moving the image up or down.

How to Disabling Circle to Search

To disable Circle to Search, users can navigate to Settings > System > Navigation mode > gear icon > Hold handle/Home to search. This allows for personal customization of how they interact with their Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro.

Availability and Updates

The Circle to Search feature is gradually being made available globally. Users should ensure they have the latest Google app update from the Play Store to access this feature on their Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro devices.
