iPhone 16 Pro rumours: Camera upgrades on the horizon

With just a few months to go until the expected launch of the iPhone 16, leaks and speculations are swirling around Apple's next flagship smartphone.

Here's a breakdown of the latest rumours surrounding the iPhone 16 Pro's camera system.

48MP ultrawide camera

A significant camera upgrade is at the heart of many iPhone 16 rumours. According to a tipster on Weibo (OvO Baby Sauce OvO), both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max might be equipped with a 48MP ultra-wide camera sensor.

This sensor is rumoured to be larger (1/2.55 inches) and boast smaller pixels (0.7µm) compared to previous models.

These improvements could translate to more detailed photos, particularly in low-light conditions, and an enhanced macro mode for capturing close-up shots.

Potential zoom enhancements

The iPhone 16 Pro rumours extend beyond the ultra-wide camera. The iPhone 16 Pro might see an upgrade to a 5x zoom camera, offering improved telephoto capabilities.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max, however, might retain the same zoom functionality as its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, the main camera on the Pro Max is rumoured to receive a slight sensor upgrade to a custom 48MP Sony IMX903 sensor (1/1.14-inch size).

This would be a modest improvement compared to the Sony IMX-803 sensor found in the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Anti-reflective coating

The iPhone 16 Pro models might benefit from a new anti-reflective technology for their lenses, potentially reducing lens flare and improving image quality.

Additionally, they might adopt the tetraprism zoom technology introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro models, further enhancing zoom capabilities.

In terms of design, the iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to retain their current design language but come in new colour options, including black, white/silver, and a new rose finish with a natural titanium build.
