Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott's contract has been extended for a year, the country's cricket board announced, rewarding him for making significant contributions to the team's progress and development.

Under Trott, Afghanistan enjoyed a successful campaign at last year's ODI World Cup where they beat Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands.

Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott's contract has been extended by a year, the country's cricket board announced, rewarding him for making significant contributions to the team's progress and development.
Having taken over as head coach in July 2022, the former England batter's 18-month tenure came to an end in 2023.
Under his guidance, Afghanistan achieved remarkable success and secured several victories.
This included the team&rsquo;s impressive performance at the T20 Asia Cup 2022, its maiden international win, a T20I series victory against Pakistan and their first-ever ODI series win over Bangladesh.
Afghanistan also enjoyed a successful campaign at last year's ODI World Cup where they beat Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands.
Afghanistan are currently in the United Arab Emirates for a three-match T20I series against the host team.
Following this, they are scheduled to travel to India, for a three-match T20I series from January 11-17.
The team has a packed year ahead with various bilateral tours lined up, including their participation in the T20 World Cup scheduled for June in the Caribbean and USA.

The report added that since their agreement with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has come to an end, hence they are looking to host their home games in India.

The India board has helped Afghanistan cricket in recent times and had even allowed their under-19 and under-17 teams to practice in India. Moreover, the Afghanistan national cricket team hosted Bangladesh in a 3-match T20 series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun in 2018.

Afghanistan put together a stunning performance against the Netherlands, securing a convincing 7-wicket win in Lucknow to return to the fifth spot on the points table.
Afghanistan's bowlers displayed their mettle by dismissing the Netherlands for a meager 179 runs before their batters comfortably chased down the target in just 31.3 overs, with Rahmat Shah and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi both scoring fifties.
The Netherlands opted to bat first, with Sybrand Engelbrecht's resilient 58 being the standout performance. However, a number of runouts saw them lose control of the plot, with a middle-order collapse restricting them to a modest 179.

The decision comes in the wake of the Taliban's growing restrictions on the freedom of women &amp; girls in Afghanistan.
Cricket Australia confirmed they took the decision to pull out of the series in the UAE after extensive consultation with the Australian Government.
CA said they are committed to growing the game for women and men around the world, including Afghanistan, and that they cannot proceed with the series that's part of the ODI Super League due to restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women&rsquo;s and girls&rsquo; education and employment opportunities.

'We want to see men and women safely playing cricket in Afghanistan and have consistently held the view that the best way to achieve this is by supporting the board', an ICC official told Cricbuzz. Despite several male cricketers having taken a clear stand against CA's decision, ICC chose to raise its concerns about the recent developments in Afghanistan, especially with regard to the women and the women cricketers.

Hosts Australia avoided a scare on Friday as they narrowly edged out Afghanistan by 4 runs in their final game of the group stage in the T20 World Cup 2022 and keep their semi-finals hope alive.
Put into bat, the Aussies didn't get off to the best of starts in the absence of skipper Aaron Finch as they lost their top 3, Cameron Green, David Warner and Steve Smith within the powerplay overs.
However, Mitchell Marsh (45) and Glenn Maxwell (54) made sure Australia got to a respectable total as they finished at 168/4.

Afghanistan tried their best to challenge the Three Lions in their Group 1 T20 World Cup encounter but eventually had to take the loss after a dismal batting performance in the 1st innings.

The Afghanistan batters were unable to stitch any substantial partnership in the first innings as England bowlers bossed the proceedings.
Sam Curran sizzled with a five-wicket haul and became the first English bowler to pick up a fifer in T20Is for England.&nbsp;
Ibrahim Zadran top-scored for Afghanistan with a run-a-ball 32 while Usman Ghani made 30. But the Blue Tigers lost their last 6 wickets for 21 runs to finish on just 112, with Curran the destructor-in-chief.
England too did not have a perfect start as they lost skipper Jos Buttler within the powerplay for just 18 runs. After getting dropped by Qais Ahmad earlier, Alex Hales finally got dismissed for 19 runs by Fareed Ahmad.
Afghanistan did manage to take a few more wickets to make a fist of it, but England were always well ahead of the asking rate. And Liam Livingstone's unbeaten 29 saw them complete the run-chase in the 19th over.

He smashed 6 sixes and a four - his unbeaten 17-ball 43 coupled with Ibrahim’s 42* ensured Afghanistan got over the line with 9 balls to spare.

Former England batsman Jonathan Trott has been named as the new head coach of the Afghanistan men's cricket team.
The Englishman will be replacing Graham Thorpe who earlier withdrew from the position.
Talking about his joining, the 41-year-old said that he is honoured to have the opportunity to take on of international cricket's most exciting teams through what is a huge year for their development as a team.
Trott has played 200 international matches for England and was retired from the game in 2018.
He previously worked with the England Men's team and as the batting consultant for Scotland during the T20 World Cup in 2021.
Afghanistan's tour to Ireland in August will be Trott's first assignment as the head coach of the Asian team.

Former England batsman Jonathan Trott, who has played more than 50 Tests for the Three Lions, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Afghanistan men's cricket team.
The Englishman will replace fellow countryman Graham Thorpe, who couldn&rsquo;t lend his services to the Blue Tigers due to illness.
Talking about his appointment, the 41-year-old said that he is honoured to have the opportunity to take on one of international cricket's most exciting teams through what is a huge year for their development.
Trott, who retired from cricket back in 2018, has represented England in all three formats.
