Facebook executive Ankhi Das, whose name came up in a recent controversy over alleged bias by the social networking giant in dealing with hate speeches, has resigned. A statement released Tuesday evening by Facebook India's Managing Director, Ajith Mohan&nbsp;said&nbsp;Ankhi has decided to step down from her role to pursue her interest in public service.&nbsp;In his statement Mohan said Ankhi&nbsp;made "enormous contributions" to Facebook's&nbsp;growth in her nine years with the company. Her resignation comes weeks after both the company and she faced questions - both internally from employees and from the Indian government and Opposition- over how political content is regulated on the massively popular social media platform.

Amazon refuses to appear before Parl Committee on Data Protection bill

E-commerce giant Amazon refused to appear before the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Data Protection Bill on October 28 saying their "subject matter experts are overseas" and cannot appear due to travel risk amid Covid.
Panel chairperson and BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said this amounts to breach of privilege. She also added that &lsquo;the panel is unanimous in its opinion that coercive action can be suggested to the government against the e-commerce company&rsquo;.
Meanwhile, Facebook's policy chief Ankhi Das and business head Ajit Mohan appeared before the committee on Friday and were reportedly questioned for two hours.
The panel has summoned officials of micro-blogging site Twitter on October 28, and Google and Paytm on October 29.
